“Shit” Wrath cursed aloud.
“What is it Wrath?” Beth looked at him concerned. Then she smelt it, a lesser.
He covered her mouth and whispered to the point he was almost inaudible “You stay here, hide…don’t make a sound.” His hand left her mouth, which was opening to protest, but she rethought his order and didn’t speak. He got up dressing extremely quickly and pulled her out of the bed and pushing her underneath of it. Poor hiding spot but if she was quiet enough, and if he could kill the lesser first she’d be fine.
He wanted to call the brothers but he wasn’t positive where the lesser was exactly and if a cell phone rang right now it might put someone in danger. Plus if it was close enough to anyone of them they would most likely smell it. He grabbed more weapons than was probably necessary and left his chambers locking the door behind him.
Beth didn’t want to be hiding, and she thought Wrath would have more consideration especially after how he felt about his situation when his parents were slaughtered. She could hold her own, and she proved that, why then was she being hidden for safety like an invalid. She lay there still, thinking what if Wrath had gotten hurt, she needed to be able to help. She moved from under the bed, getting dressed, searching the room so for some weapons. She went into his closet full of them and took out a few daggers and an ever-trusty gun.
Wrath crept around the house, his back to the wall carefully checking each room a member of the brotherhood was in. He gathered them up and they were now all dressed and armed searching the property.
Beth opened the door, and there he was…the lesser. Oh god she thought, her heart racing, she looked at him wordlessly. He only smirked looking back at her, his eyes pale and cold. She clutched to the dagger in her hand, she saw he had a tranquilizer gun. No! Her mind raced, he is not going to do this again. It was the same bastard that had kidnapped her before. She remembered the entire thing as if she was reliving it and lunged at him. He anticipated it and knocked her backwards. She fell to the ground her heart thumping so loudly, she could almost bet her could hear it. Where was Wrath she wondered how could he not know that the lesser was this close. She wanted to scream but knew that if she dared she’d be dead long before any of the brotherhood could get to her. She clutched on to the dagger staring up at him, he took a step towards her. She shook keeping her eyes on his, she heard him load the tranquilizer gun, her eyes not leaving his still. She could sense he was ready, she was trapped. She was taken over by pure unadulterated hate and attacked him. As she did he shot the gun, missing her! It was almost point blank range and the fact that he missed meant she had startled him and had the advantage. She stabbed the dagger into his stomach, imbedding it inside of him, she pulled it out twisting it. The blade dripping, his blood had stained the silver a deep crimson color. She thrust it back into him in his chest, pulling it out with a twist. The lesser didn’t make a sound that unnerved her and made her react violently. She had her eyes on his again as the blade drove into his throat. His eyes had no fear, no remorse. She continued to stab, wishing he’d make a noise of pain, of dying. He closed his eyes and in a giant burst of light disappeared from beneath her, he was dead.
She was drenched in blood, shaking, and still angry. He was dead, but still she needed the grim satisfaction of knowing she’d taken something away from him, something important, clearly his life didn’t matter to him.
She dropped the dagger, her heart refused to slow, and she was hyperventilating badly.
Wrath was still in the house, and the smell of baby powder had disappeared. He went out back where Zsadist and Vishous were. “The lessers gone.”
“Did you kill him?” Z asked.
“No,” Wrath looked them over “One of the other brothers must have, go find them I’m going back in to check on Beth.”
Vishous nodded, still acting wary.
Wrath went back in, heading down the stairs slowly. He saw that his chamber door was open and ran to it. He smelt blood, oh god! He went to yell for his leelan, but before he did he caught site of her. She was in the middle of the floor, on her knees, blood on her. “Leelan…” he whispered going to her, kneeling beside her holding her.
She was silent.
“What happened?” he looked at her, checking to see if the blood was hers.
“I went to open the door…to come help…” she looked down. “He was there.”
He held her tighter.
“I killed him….it was the same one that kidnapped me.” She looked at him now. “Why did you hide me, after how you felt so weak because you hid and were helpless with your parents.”
“Leelan, I needed to protect you.” He started to explain.
She growled low “Don’t say that…I am not a child.”
She got up “I need a shower.”
She walked to the bathroom, sighing staring in the mirror. She stripped the weapons and clothing thrown all over the floor, she turned on the shower so hot that the steam quickly fogged over the mirror. She washed her body several times making sure not to miss any blood spatter.
Wrath understood what she had said but still he had to protect her, she could fight for herself but something in him tightened to the point of nausea thinking that she might get hurt, or killed. He went back upstairs to the brothers, and looked them over. “The lessers dead.” He said in a less than appreciative tone.
“Where did you find him?” Vishous asked.
“I didn’t,” he sighed
“Then how you kn-…” V started
He looked up cutting him off “Beth killed him.”
As he said it he felt ill knowing that the lessers were going for her, as a weakness to him. She was his shellan, his leelan, and the queen. He wondered if they would just keep going after her, he couldn’t stand the idea of the bastards taking her from him again. “We need better security.” Wrath growled. “I don’t know how he did it, but he threw off my senses, I didn’t know he was so close.”
The Brothers all nodded in agreement.
